Parents of children at risk of being removed from their home by the state gained an ally in Yamhill County last summer with the opening of the Safe Families for Children program. The program was begun by A Family Place, which runs relief nurseries in McMinnville and Newberg and whose mission is to reduce child abuse, neglect and foster placements in Yamhill County.
The model for Safe Families for Children is a simple one: it is a community-based network designed to support struggling families who need to temporarily place their children in a safe place outside the home.
