Restoring Love and Safety
Safe Families for Children Oregon Chapter
Sarah had been trying to hold her life together while quietly enduring the trauma of an abusive relationship. She was a mom of two young daughters and wanted to do everything she could to give them a good life. Her home was no longer a safe place to be in, and she had finally reached a breaking point.
Something needed to change. Sarah’s needs were overwhelming and way too much to figure out on her own. She needed to know what steps to take next and how to get away safely. She bravely reached out for help in her community. Family Support and Connections, along with the Safe Familiesfor Children (SFFC) team, stepped in. SFFC connected Sarah with a Circle of Support to provide her with a caring, compassionate community to walk alongside her during this overwhelming crisis.
They first addressed her security needs and helped her file a restraining order to ensure that she and her daughters were safe. They also partnered with church handyman teams, replaced locks, and installed other safetydevices throughout her home. These simple acts reinforced to Sarah that she wasn’t alone in this fight.
Next, the Safe Families team worked closely with the Department of Health and Human Services to secure a domestic violence grant, giving Sarah the means to begin turning her home into a sanctuary of peace and safety.
Finally, the team addressed Sarah and her daughter’s emotional needs. They connected Sarah with trusted local therapists who provided weekly counseling for both her and her daughters, helping them process the pain they’d experienced and begin to rebuild their sense of security.
With every small act of care and protection, Sarah’s strength grew, and her daughters began to thrive again—finally able to rest in a home where love and safety had been restored. At Safe Families for Children, we become family, so no family has to face a crisis in isolation.
