Tacos, Taquitos, Generosity, and GivingTuesdayNow

This year, May 5th is not only an amazing Mexican holiday filled with delectable food, colorful costumes, and exciting celebrations–this Cinco de Mayo is also an opportunity.

#GivingTuesdayNow—a global movement encouraging radical generosity—responded to the COVID-19 pandemic by announcing a “day of unity” on May 5th. This is in addition to their planned day of giving which always occurs on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving.

Since 2012, GivingTuesday has brought awareness and solution to the global need for more generosity. Those who choose to participate during this holiday are encouraged to give in whatever way they can–money, labor, time, etc.–in celebration of generosity, and loving their neighbor.

Generosity

There is no gift too big or too small when given with a good heart. 2 Corinthians 9:7-8 (NIV) encourages giving “what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. and God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” Any gift that is given with a generous and loving heart, is one that is able to multiple and advance the Kingdom of God.

Impact

In times such as these, the vulnerabilities of families are made very clear. In 2003, Safe Families for Children began our journey to support these families and children in need. Since then, we have established over 120 chapters across the United States, supporting 15,000 families, and helping over 25,000 vulnerable children in the process. However, none of this would be possible without the radical generosity of our donors and volunteers.

#GivingTuesdayNow

Now more than ever, the vulnerable are in need of generosity, love, and support. As the pandemic results in isolation, and many becoming unemployed, the number of at-risk families grows daily. The heart of Safe Families for Children is to support these families, getting them back on their feet again, especially during this pandemic.

We need you now more than ever, as we continue to aid the families in need during these times. We want to encourage you to join us in supporting those who are vulnerable in ways that you are able–whether by time or donation. Every single gift to most Safe Families chapters is matched with up to $1000 through our partnership with Stand Together. With every donation, you allow us to make a greater impact for God’s Kingdom, helping those vulnerable families, and displaying the love of Christ to them.

This Tuesday is an opportunity to celebrate the global generosity that will impact the lives of many. As you plan your Cinco De Mayo dinners with plenty of tacos and taquitos, we encourage you to give to your local Safe Families chapter, aiding those in your community. Together, we are able to serve the vulnerable. Together, we make an impact.
