Safe Families Helps Families in Crisis

Patrick Henry Family Services is helping to pilot a program for families in need. The program is the first of its kind in the state and provides an alternative to foster care.

It’s called “Safe Families.” It functions similarly to foster care, however it doesn’t involve government or social services. Volunteers lend their time to help children in need without being paid. They must pass a background check and can provide services for no more than 90 days.

Safe Families is currently in place in 71 cities across the U.S. It is currently being piloted in Lynchburg and the surrounding areas.
